Curriculum

Year 7 Teams
Year 7 classes at Geelong High School have two significant teachers who either teach them for English and Humanities or Maths and Science. This has encouraged student connectedness and eases the transition from primary to high school. These significant teachers regularly discuss, curriculum, teaching strategies and behaviour trends to ensure each student performs at their best.

Home Groups & House Structure
Home Groups are an essential element to our pastoral care system. They provide another structure where students have the opportunity for support and security in a permanent grouping. The groups will be vertical in composition, consisting of students from Years 8-11 and will have one teacher assigned to each group. Year 12 students will remain in their house group for home group. There will be one Year 12 home group per house with one home group teacher. Home Group teachers will be appointed to support students in a permanent group throughout a student's school life. Home Groups combine a Houses to promote school identity and spirit.

Schools for Innovation & Excellence
Geelong High School belongs to the Geelong Gardens Learning Cluster, along with South Geelong, Tate Street and Moolap Primary Schools. The Cluster aims to improve teaching and learning in the Middle Years (Years 5 - 9) by focusing on relationships on four levels: students, teachers, structures and programs. This involves a three-year program in connecting, motivating, valuing and challenging students and creating a sense of ownership for learning.

Learning Enhancement
A learning enhancement program, designed both to support students who are experiencing learning difficulties and to extend talented students, is provided across all year levels. Year 7 students are tested for their literacy competencies and those most in need are assisted through a Literacy Enhancement Program to overcome identified deficiencies. Access to a range of enrichment activities, such as subject-based competitions, is available to all students. An extensive Study Skills program complements studies at all levels.
