Student Exchange Programs

Geelong High School participates in a number of student exchange programs. The school regularly hosts Japanese visitors from Naha Nishi, Okinawa and has just recently established a sister-school relationship with a school in Nara. These visiting students are hosted by Geelong High School families and join our students in their regular classes as well as specific cultural exchange activities.

Our school also regularly welcomes long term exchange students and teachers from countries including Germany, Sweden, France and Japan. Students spend up to a year studying at our school with a goal to improve their English skills. The German and Japanese teachers work together with our language teachers to teach across all year levels and share cultural insights.

Students studying Japanese and German at Geelong High School are also offered the opportunity to visit these countries either via an exchange program or through participation in the regular school trips. A trip to Japan runs every second year and includes visits to Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto as well as a short home stay experience. Students travelling to Germany spend five weeks in country and live with a host family and attend a German school.

For those interested in longer term exchange overseas, there are a number of organisations that provide such opportunities and assist with all of the arrangements. Some links are included below. The programs vary in length from three months to twelve months.

The listing of the programs below in no way indicates any endorsement of any particular program.
