Geelong High School
Excellent VCE Results 2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to all our year 12 students who received their final results yesterday. We are pleased to report that Geelong High School students in 2022 achieved an excellent success rate in completing their VCE studies.
The last two years have been particularly difficult for young people across the world, and it has been fantastic to see our students and community come together to support each other towards some outstanding outcomes.
Special mention must go to Mason Blyth who achieved an ATAR of 99.65 and a 50 in English, placing him in the top 1% of students in the state. Mason will study a Bachelor of Science with a Physics Major at Melbourne University. Lykeira Shannon similarly achieved 98.9 (top 2% of the state) and she intends to study a Bachelor of Arts with a Psychology Major followed by a Masters in Education, also at the University of Melbourne.
Whilst it is fantastic to have two students score in the top 2% of students in the state, 2022 has also seen 12 students achieve an ATAR over 80 (20% of the cohort) and 23 students achieve an ATAR over 70 (38.3% of the cohort).
Congratulations to all students for their efforts here, VCE can be challenging at the best of times, and it is a testament to the efforts and positive attitude of Geelong High School students that they were able to do so well.
On Wednesday at our awards ceremony, we also look forward to celebrating the over twenty students who achieved a 40+ study score in at least one of their subjects. Over the past few years, it has been fantastic to see a range of subjects gain exceptional outcomes with their students: Legal Studies, Health and Human Development, Theatre Studies, Psychology, Further Maths, Physics, Food Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Business Management, History and Computer Science (with an average study score of 35 in 2022) were all strong performers this year amongst others. We are pleased to continue to offer such a wide range of subjects as well into 2023 and onwards.
Geelong High School is also proud of its tradition of challenge and excellence, with students able to accelerate into VCE or advanced subjects from Year 9 onwards.
Whilst we celebrate individual student success stories, it is important to remind everyone that your final ATAR score does not define you as a person. In the end it is a rank for tertiary admission and will not necessarily determine where you will go in the future or how happy you will be. All students should feel proud of their efforts and be satisfied they have done their personal best.
In 2022 we are also proud to see so many of our vocational students progressing into full time and high-quality industries, employment and trades. Well done to our VCAL students and the VCAL team for their dedication and hard work as well.
It is worth noting that for our 2022 Year 12 cohort, on their journey with us they have been exceptional role models, musicians, learners, community workers, performers and sports people. In many ways it is their contributions to others and the wider health of the school alongside their determination to overcome adversity that will be their lasting legacy. We look forward to hearing about all their successes in the future and congratulate them on being in the class of ‘22. You are truly prepared for life.
All the best,
Mr McConchie
Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning
