Year 9 STEM - Tower Build
22-Feb.-2023
Our Year 9 STEM class have been busy planning, designing, building and testing their prototype fire observation towers. They began the process by creating simple towers using only A4 paper and clear tape with the aim to be as tall as possible and hold a minimum of 400g. We used a formula to determine the highest build using the least amount of paper. For the second version build they had the additional resources of icy pole sticks and elastic bands, all items had a cost per item which we used to determine the final scores for their builds. As a class we created the formula Final Score = $cost / (Height (cm) x 2 x weight (g)) with early testing results starting to come in at 0.75. Students are working through the design process to Imagine, Ask, Plan, Create, Test, Improve and Share. Top quality work on your builds Year 9’s!!!
