A Message From The Principal #19
Principal’s Message Week 8 Term 4 2021
Welcome,
School Production – Opening Night
We are thrilled that our school production “The Addams Family” opens tonight, Friday 26th November. There are also matinee and evening performances on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November. Having seen a sneak peak of the final rehearsal on Thursday, I can assure you, you do not want to miss out. Given the easing of crowd size restrictions, we anticipate full crowds at every performance. There may be a few tickets left on Trybooking. As per government regulations for community events, anyone attending will need to be able to provide evidence that they are double-vaccinated in order to be admitted.
Graduation
The year 12 Graduation was again held on the school site, this time outdoors with some parents able to bear witness. Despite the low-key approach the event was very slick and well-organised and the students dressed formally and looked very sophisticated. The entire cohort presented as being well prepared for life and ready for any new challenges that may come their way. My thanks to Trudy Cameron, who organised the event, and staff who assisted with the organisation.
Retiring/Leaving
There are a number of staff who have indicated their intention to retire at the end of the year.
Catriona Simmonds; Marg Rhoddy; Greg Williams; Graeme Matheson. Robyn Dietrich also retired during the year and Scott Wallace has left teaching to pursue other career options. – We are extremely grateful for the contribution each of these staff members has made to Geelong High School. I will say more of their contribution at a later date. We also have several staff taking various forms of leave for part or all of 2022. These include Chris Green; Justin Harris and Jenny Fox.
Sadly, Jonathon Panozzo, one of our outstanding young members of staff, is leaving to continue his teaching career in Melbourne. We wish him all the best in this promotion position.
Students Out of Class
Lately we have had an increase in the number of students asking to leave the classroom for various reasons, mostly of minor importance. It is important that as a school and parent/carer community we are on the same page in prioritising student learning- especially given our last two years of disruption to our normal learning routines. Can I ask that parents/carers support us in emphasising to your child/ren that students have before school, snack (recess), lunchtime and after school, to do such things as go to the toilet, do any business at the Administration Office, catch up with teachers and the like.
It should only be an emergency that disrupts student learning. One of our school values is taking responsibility. We can encourage this by expecting students to be responsibly organised to be in class and learning for the whole lesson.
Kind regards and keep safe,
Glenn Davey
