Camps

School Camps Program

GHS offer a range of different camps during the year. All of the camps aim to take the students outside of their comfort zones and introduce them to experiences they may not get in their everyday lives. The camps aim to challenge the students socially and physically. All the camps are a great way for students and teachers to strengthen their relationships and get to know each other in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The following camps will be offered as extra-curricular activities, that is, as a withdrawal from normal classes (pending number of applicants). The aim of these offerings is to encourage more students to take part in a broader range of activities not normally offered within classroom activities.

  • Year 7 Camp - Alexandra - April/May - Year 7 (All Students) $320.00 TBC
  • Year 9 Sydney Trip - Sydney - December - Year 9 (50 Max) $675.00 TBC
  • Downhill Ski Trip - Mt Hotham - September - Year 10/11 (45 Max) $700.00 TBC

Prices will vary depending on the number of students attending, and the details above are all preliminary estimates. In most cases the more students signing up to attend will mean the possibility of reduced prices. As planning dates draw closer, information will be distributed through the parent and student bulletins and the GHS website. Happy camping!

Year 7 Camp

In year seven all students take a 3-hour bus trip up to Alexandra Adventure Resort. Positioned on a beautiful 30-acre peaceful property, Alexandra Adventure Resort is located 7kms from the local town of Alexandra, approximately 130kms North East of Melbourne Victoria. The students take part in many different activities that aim to build their confidence. There are various ‘challenge by choice’ activities such as the high ropes course, flying fox, rock climbing wall, abseiling and giant rope swing that aim to get the students to push themselves beyond their comfort zones. Other activities focus on team work and communication skills. The camp is a fun way for students and teachers to get to know each other outside of the classroom.

Year 9 Sydney Trip

This camp gives the students four nights in Sydney. Staying just outside the CBD the students get to experience the biggest city in Australia and all it has to offer. We take them to Manly, the Aquarium, Chinatown, the Opera House, Olympic stadium and Bondi. This is always a fun trip giving the year nines a great opportunity to mix with many students who they would normally not get to know in the school environment.

Year 10 and 11 Ski Trip

This camp takes the students to Mt Hotham for three days of skiing and snowboarding. Each morning students get a two-hour lesson in their snow sport of choice before taking on the rest of the mountain in small groups for the rest of the day. Evenings are relaxed with movies and hours of lies about who had the biggest crash or landed the highest jump. This camp is very special as it offers our students the opportunity to try a sport they may never get to try in their normal lives. This is one of those camps that students will remember for the rest of their lives.
