Positive Education

Positive Education

Positive Psychology studies the science of what is right with you; how you can recognise this in yourself and others; and how we can strengthen and celebrate the many positive aspects of life, self and community. Positive Education infuses our best practice teaching with the science of positive psychology to encourage our students and staff to 'feel good and do good' – for yourself, others and the world. We teach our students specific skills to enhance their personal resilience and promote a growth mindset following the PERMAH Model. Through teaching these valuable life skills, Geelong High School provides its students with an increased capacity to learn effectively, as well as offering them a strong foundation on which they can build a successful life.
Positive Purpose: Understanding, believing in, and serving something greater than the self and deliberately engaging in activities for the benefit of others.

Positive Emotion: Enabling students and staff to develop a stronger understanding of their emotions and those of others.

Positive Engagement: Experiencing complete immersion in activities through understanding the nature of engagement, the pathways to it, and the impact it has on individual wellbeing.

Positive Relationships: Exploring the importance of connectedness and strong relationships for wellbeing

Positive Meaning: Having a purpose and meaning to why each of us is on this earth is important to living a life of happiness and fulfilment. Rather than the pursuit of pleasure and material wealth, there is an actual meaning to life.

Positive Achievement: Enabling individual growth through striving for and achieving meaningful outcomes.

Positive Health: Supporting students and staff to develop sustainable habits for optimal physical and psychological health.
